H.E. Eng. Salah Salem Bin Omair Al Shamsi

President of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce

A prominent businessman in the United Arab Emirates. He is the President of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce since Jan. 2006. He was appointed in June 1999 as the Chairman and Managing Director of Emirates Global Capital Corporation Ltd. to initiate the Company and lead the development of Saadiyat Island, one of the most ambitious and promising projects in the UAE and in the Middle East as a whole. Known for his accuracy in managing and delivering, H.E. Al Shamsi paved his way since the started his career in 1981 with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to become the Executive Director of the hydrocarbon processing directorate from 1984 to 1990 and the Executive Director of projects form 1990 till 1996. While in duty, and through his 15 years with ADNOC, he was responsible for starting & managing Mega size Projects (+USD Billion) and was in charge of operation and maintenance of the ADNOC-owned operations such as power, gas treatment, and gas liquefaction plant and oil refineries. H.E. Al Shamsi was able to reduce costs and increase productivity significantly on the refinery operations and deliver projects in a timely manner at the right cost.

While in ADNOC, H.E. attended to many managerial and technical courses and seminars, such as Project Management, Construction Management, Executive Management locally and abroad (Germany, USA…).He officially represented ADNOC in the Gulf Cooperation Council – GCC refineries managers meetings and is now regarded as an expert in oil and gas in Abu Dhabi. H.E. was also the Chairman of Ruwais Fertilizer Industries (FERTIL), and a board member in Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (GASCO), Abu Dhabi Gas liquefaction Company (ADGAS), National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC), Abu Dhabi National Oil Company for Oil Distribution (ADNOC-FOD), National Drilling Company (NDC) and other recognized institutions.He was actively involved the incorporation of many UAE big institutions such as Al Khazna Insurance, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Abu Dhabi National Industrial Projects (ADNIP), and other companies.

H.E. is also a member of the American Business Council, the Canadian Business Council, the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE)-USA, the Society of UAE Engineers and the Institute of Certified Management Accountants in USA. He completed training courses in Basic Project Management: Planning, Scheduling and control from American Management Associations; Planning and Economics of Refinery Upgrading from the College of Petroleum Studies in London; Advanced Management Program from MERIC, S.A; General Management Course from the European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD) in Switzerland, Construction Law from Center for Professional Advancement, as well as a training course at MOBIL.

H.E. Al Shamsi was granted the “World Safety Organization Award” in 1987 for the efforts spent to increase safety levels in the Refinery & Gas Plant Operations and was in 1988 chosen as a member of the International who’s who of professionals. Graduated initially as a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from one of the elite engineering schools in USA, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, N.C., H.E. is at the moment completing an Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA) at the American University of Sharjah and has now enrolled in the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Financial Management (CFM) programs. H.E. is getting ready to begin with a Ph.D. in Management. H.E. Salah Salem Al Shamsi is still actively running his own private business in contracting, trading, real estate, farms, investment and joint ventures.
